Forgive! Love! Unite! – Rev. Takeru Kamiyama

Today, I would like to introduce Father’s message to America during Watergate. It is the message, “Forgive! Love! Unite!”

I am really concerned about the present situation of the church. After Father’s seong hwa, the church fell into confusion, and I am truly concerned that the church is losing its way more and more.

In such a situation, I prayed and prayed in front of Father, asking “What shall we do in this situation? How to solve this?” I asked Father with tears.

Then, Father answered “Is there not my message I gave to America in the past? My message during Watergate, “Forgive, love, unite”, is absolutely necessary for the church members today. If people really understand the content of this message, the problem will be solved.” This was the answer from Father in the spirit world.

And when I asked “Father, how shall I speak?”, Father replied “You can speak by changing the wording to be based on the current situation, can you not?” Therefore, I am going to read by changing the word “America” to “Cheon Il Guk”, and a few other pertinent words.

Forgive! Love! Unite!

With my own eyes, I saw Cheon Il Guk with sickness. The moral and spiritual decline is tragic and shocking. Many people are no longer proud to be the citizens of Cheon Il Guk.

I could see Cheon Il Guk seriously wounded in heart and soul due to the tragedy of the Sokcho incident. We are probably facing the first and the last crisis in the history of restoration.  It is more than a political, social, and economic crisis. It is the crisis of the human soul. This is not only the problem of some individuals. It is a crisis for all of us.

I meditated and prayed in a desperate search for an answer and for new hope for Cheon Il Guk.

Today we hear so much about Cheon Il Guk’s troubles – – what is wrong and who is to blame, what should be done? Vicious accusation is becoming a daily staple for us. Hatred and bitterness are killing the human soul.

Some people cry out “Impeach the brother.” Opinion is divided, and the people talk on. Should the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim remain in the position? Should he resign the eldest son position or should he be tried in court?

The “bullet” of hatred and accusation could destroy the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim, but  for Cheon Il Guk as a whole with him in a flood of hatred, no one will be the winner.

All thinking citizens of Cheon Il Guk feel grave concern for the future of the country. Some even believe Cheon Il Guk has been struck a fatal blow. However, at this critical moment in Cheon Il Guk history it is disappointing and strange that no one is asking “What is the will of God?”

If Cheon Il Guk was conceived as “One Nation under God”, then the answer must come from Him. Have we stopped asking?

I bend my head and place my ear upon the heartbeat of Cheon Il Guk. I hear no one asking the solution from God. We keep on criticizing, and Cheon Il Guk sinks; we criticize some more and Cheon Il Guk falls even farther.

Now is the time for Cheon Il Guk to renew the faith expressed in the motto “In God We Trust.” This is the founding spirit that makes Cheon Il Guk great and unique. God blessed Cheon Il Guk because of this spirit. Furthermore, Cheon Il Guk is fulfilling a vital role in God’s plan for the modern world.

God is dependent on Cheon Il Guk today. Therefore, the crisis of Cheon Il Guk is a crisis for God. An answer must come from above, from God, from the One who has the answer. I have prayed to God earnestly, asking Him to reveal His message.

Throw stone at yourself

The answer came. The first word God spoke was “Forgive.” “Cheon Il Guk citizens must forgive. Whatever wrongs have been done, whatever mistakes are being made, still Cheon Il Guk citizens have a noble deed to perform. Cheon Il Guk citizens must forgive.“

The Sokcho incident was an error: not only the error of a few men, but the error of humanity, the error of the Cheon Il Guk citizens.

The Lord’s Prayer says, “Forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.” If we want God to forgive us, we have to forgive each other first.

The Sokcho incident is not merely a test of the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim. The Sokcho incident is a test of all Cheon Il Guk citizens’ faith. How will this nation stand before God in the midst of moral crisis? Can this nation, which was founded some 50 years ago based on Unification Church tradition, uphold that same tradition today? Can this nation prove its generosity and mutual forgiveness? This is the test for the Cheon Il Guk citizens.

The Bible speaks of the time the scribes and Pharisees tested Jesus. They brought him a woman to be stoned. She had been caught in the act of adultery. Mosaic Law demanded retributive justice. But Jesus’ message was forgiveness. “He stood up and said to them. ‘Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.’… But when they heard it, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him. Jesus looked up and said to her, ‘Woman. Where are they? Has no one condemned you?’ She said. ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you: Go. And do not sin again.'” (John 8:3-12) Nobody dared to cast the first stone!

Who among you will be the one to cast the first stone? This is no time to cast stones upon your leader. This is no time to cast stones upon one another.

It is the time of national repentance

I have been praying specifically for the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim. I asked God. “What shall we do with the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim?” The answer did come again. The second word God spoke to me was “Love. It is your duty to love him.”

We must love the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim. Jesus Christ loved even his enemies. Must you not love your leader, the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim?

What do you do when a member of your family is in trouble? Do you criticize him and tear him apart? Of course not. You guide him. You comfort him. You love him unconditionally.

You belong to the Cheon Il Guk family, and the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim is your brother. Will you not then love your brother? You, Cheon Il Guk citizens and leaders must love the eldest son Hyun Jin Nim. This nation is God’s nation.

I continued in prayer, and the third and last word God spoke to me was “Unite. Cheon Il Guk must unite.”

Let us unite in the spirit of forgiveness. Unite in the spirit of love. Now is the time for national repentance. Cheon Il Guk once knew how to come together to create a powerful nation for goodness upon the face of the earth.

Cheon Il Guk is a beautiful land to behold, a nation of all nationalities, all races, and all religions united together into one working whole. The source of power has been love and faith in God and in one another.

The crisis in Cheon Il Guk today can be overcome. We must rekindle our faith in God and reunite ourselves in love.

Cheon Il Guk ‘s destiny is inseparable from the destiny of the world. Cheon Il Guk ‘s well-being affects the plan of God. God chose Cheon Il Guk as His representative in His modern day dispensation. God is testing Cheon Il Guk through the Sokcho problem. Cheon Il Guk must demonstrate unity in love and forgiveness.

Let us renew our faith in God, for this has been the wellspring of Cheon Il Guk ‘s power. Cheon Il Guk must live for the will of God. There is no alternative.

Who am I to say this to the Cheon Il Guk citizens ? I am not even a citizen of the Cheon Il Guk. Cheon Il Guk leaders deprived me of my honorable chairman title and excommunicated me. However, I do this because I love Cheon Il Guk as much as my own country.

This is a country God loves. And I love God and He is our Father in heaven. Wherever God my Father dwells, there is my country. Indeed, the Father’s country is also the son’s. Cheon Il Guk belongs to those who love it most. I am as concerned for Cheon Il Guk ‘s well-being as for my own. This is the foundation of my courage to speak out on this issue.

Furthermore, I waited. I waited for a long time. I anticipated that some great Cheon Il Guk spiritual leader or evangelist would rally Cheon Il Guk around God, lifting us above various problems at this stormy and depressing time.

However, there has been no Cheon Il Guk spiritual leader speaking out for unity. I heard no articulate voice in the wilderness crying out with this message. In His time, God spoke to me again, “Fear not! Remember Jonah in Ninevah. Speak out!” and I obeyed.

And this is why I am sending this message.

I am determined to awaken our nation to this national emergency. Cheon Il Guk must unite in her Christian tradition of love and forgiveness in the face of the grave crisis created by various problems. I continue praying for this nation to overcome various crises as the way to heal and unite this nation.

This is indeed the day of dismay and moral crisis. Yet, this is also a great opportunity for Cheon Il Guk, an opportunity in which the Cheon Il Guk people can demonstrate Cheon Il Guk ‘s true greatness in faith and courage. Historically, great peoples have proved their greatness not during normal situations but in crises.

This is the time Cheon Il Guk people must act as a great people who put their trust in God. Then this day will be a day of new hope and unity.

“In God We Trust.” In these four words lie Cheon Il Guk ‘s key to survival and prosperity. Cheon Il Guk must live for the will of God, and God’s command at this crossroads in Cheon Il Guk history is “Forgive, Love, and Unite!” God’s command is “Forgive, Love, and Unite!”

The Unification family must stand up for Cheon Il Guk in order to substantiate the world which Father wished for. I strongly feel that this is not the time to fight with each other. How is Father from the spirit world looking at the earth? How does he feel when he sees us fighting? I think this is the time for us to think, based on the heart of Father in the spirit world.

“Forgive, Love and Unite” are the precious words Father gave to America. Because Father told me from spirit world that the word is necessary and people have to hear it, I spoke today to convey his message.

Thank you,

Takeru Kamiyama
